Job Description

Cybersecurity Engineer II

Location: San Diego, CA

Employment: Full-Time

Experience Level: Early to Mid-Level

About TrustThink

TrustThink is a cybersecurity engineering company specializing in establishing trust in complex, interconnected systems. Our work spans intelligent transportation systems, autonomous vehicles, unmanned aircraft systems (drones), medical devices, defense systems, and emerging technologies.

We work with federal agencies, technology manufacturers, and industry partners to design, evaluate, and improve the security of systems that support critical operations.

Position Overview

TrustThink is seeking a Cybersecurity Engineer / Analyst to join our growing engineering team. We’re looking for someone who combines strong analytical abilities with a genuine interest in hands-on technical work.

This is a diverse role that spans cybersecurity research, engineering, testing, technical analysis, and training development. One week you might be evaluating the security of an unmanned aircraft system, and the next you could be developing cybersecurity training materials for transportation engineers or researching security requirements for connected medical devices.

The ideal candidate is curious, adaptable, comfortable learning new technologies, and capable of translating complex cybersecurity concepts into practical engineering recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

Cybersecurity Engineering and Testing

* Perform hands-on cybersecurity assessments of connected devices, embedded systems, and networked technologies, including unmanned aircraft systems.

* Analyze system architectures, communications protocols, software components, and security controls.

* Conduct vulnerability assessments, security testing, and technical investigations using appropriate tools and methodologies.

* Develop and document test procedures, security findings, and recommendations.

* Support prototyping, integration, and evaluation of cybersecurity technologies.

Cybersecurity Analysis and Research

* Research cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, standards, and emerging technologies.

* Conduct threat modeling, risk assessments, and security architecture reviews.

* Analyze security requirements and translate technical findings into actionable recommendations.

* Evaluate cybersecurity practices across transportation, medical devices, autonomous systems, and other critical technology domains.

* Prepare technical reports, white papers, presentations, and customer deliverables.

Cybersecurity Training and Technical Communication

* Help develop, update, and deliver cybersecurity training for government and industry customers.

* Support training programs focused on ITS cybersecurity, medical device cybersecurity, and related topics.

* Develop practical exercises, case studies, technical demonstrations, and instructional materials.

* Communicate cybersecurity concepts effectively to audiences with varying levels of technical experience.

* Participate in technical discussions, workshops, and customer meetings.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

* Approximately 2–5 years of relevant cybersecurity, software engineering, systems engineering, or technical analysis experience.

* Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, operating systems, security principles, and common cybersecurity vulnerabilities.

* Familiarity with cybersecurity assessment tools, methodologies, or testing environments.

* Ability to perform technical research and analyze unfamiliar systems or technologies.

* Strong technical writing, documentation, and communication skills.

* Willingness to perform both analytical and hands-on engineering work.

* Ability to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary engineering team.

* U.S. citizenship required for applicable defense-related assignments.

Desired Qualifications

* Experience with Linux, Python, scripting, or software development.

* Familiarity with tools such as Wireshark, Nmap, Burp Suite, or similar security assessment technologies.

* Experience with embedded systems, wireless communications, IoT, drones, or connected devices.

* Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks and standards, such as NIST, ISO 27001, or related industry-specific guidance.

* Experience developing technical training, presentations, or instructional materials.

* Exposure to federal government projects, cybersecurity engineering, or security assessment activities.

* Experience with vulnerability research, penetration testing, or security test automation.

* Eligibility to obtain a U.S. government security clearance.

What We’re Looking For

We value versatility, intellectual curiosity, and initiative.

You don’t need to be an expert in every technology we work with. We’re looking for someone who understands cybersecurity fundamentals, enjoys solving technical problems, and is motivated to continually expand their engineering skills.

Our ideal candidate is equally comfortable researching a cybersecurity standard, writing a technical report, preparing a training exercise, or working in a lab to investigate how a system operates.

Why Join TrustThink?

* Work across diverse and emerging technologies, including drones, autonomous systems, medical devices, and intelligent transportation infrastructure.

* Gain hands-on experience with real-world cybersecurity engineering and assessment projects.

* Collaborate with experienced engineers and cybersecurity specialists.

* Contribute to cybersecurity training, industry initiatives, and technical research.

* Develop broad technical expertise while taking increasing ownership of engineering assignments.

Compensation: $90,000–$110,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
